How to make a yard prop/doll for Halloween?
I need to make it look like a statue from a cemetary, but I can’t use concrete, stone, or anything too expensive.
Use plywood and nails to construct a form (spine, legs, arms–no head) and a base, so it will stand upright. You can also use PVC pipes.
Wrap chicken wire around the chest and legs.
Cut a hole at bottom of a Styrofoam wig head ($5 at beauty stores), then place the head on the “neck”.
Spray the entire form, including the top of the head but not the face, with Great Stuff insulation. The insulation will expand.
Once dry, carefully carve the insulation to create a body with clothing.
Spray paint the form gray.
*It is easier to create a dummy wearing a dress, because you won’t need to construct legs (just a cross shaped form), and it is less complicated to carve. Stone textured spray paint can be expensive, but it looks more realistic.
