I’m the publisher for Vancouver Travel Guide, and I had the opportunity to visit the only two 5 star hotels in Vancouver and review them. In this article I will review the 5 star Pan Pacific Hotel and the newly constructed 5 star Shangri La hotel!

Pan Pacific Downtown Vancouver Waterfront Hotel

The Pan Pacific in downtown Vancouver is the only 5 star hotel on the waterfront of downtown Vancouver. And it’s literally, on top of the water! This hotel is located over the water on the Canada Place docs just in front of Canada Place. And thanks to the waterfront location, the views of the ocean and mountain ranges are spectacular!

The rooms at this Downtown Vancouver hotel are all very well appointed. The decor is traditional west coast with highlights of a modern color palette. The rooms are exceptionally clean, and the hotel staff is extremely friendly. There are many amenities and services available at the Pan Pacific, however the best attraction at the Pan Pacific is the 7th floor pool overlooking the Burrard Inlet and the North Vancouver Mountain Range! It’s a spectacle on a warm sunny day.

The Pan Pacific hotel is a great hotel for business travelers traveling to Vancouver for a meeting or conference. The advantage to the Pan Pacific hotel is it’s location. The Pan Pacific is within short walking distance of the Canada Place Convention Centre, and even the brand new Vancouver Convention Centre.

Shangri La Downtown Vancouver

The Shangri La hotel chain has been around for decades, however Vancouver is it’s first stop in North America for the ever growing hotel chain. And when this hotel company wanted to build a hotel in Vancouver, they decided to do everything right. Firstly, the Shangri La tower is the tallest tower in Vancouver, at 64 floors. Secondly, the Shangri La is the first 5 star hotel on Georgia Street.

The rooms at the at this hotel are all spectacular. Each rooms features floor-to-ceiling windows and each room offers spectacular views of the Vancouver cityscape. The rooms are decorated in a contemporary Asian feel, and all rooms are very clean as well. The service at the Shangri La is great, and the concierge is extremely accommodating too.

There is some shopping on the Shangri La property, including Vancouver’s fist Burberry store, and even a brand new Urban Fare gourmet grocery store is nearby. And thanks to the downtown location on West Georgia Street, all guests who stay at the 5 star Shangri La are within walking distance of all major Vancouver attractions.

Who has the tattoo of a moon and star in Pan’s Labyrinth?

I have a tattoo of a moon and star on my shoulder. A guy in my statistics class said, “Hey! Your tattoo is from Pan’s Labyrinth!” And… I had no idea what he was talking about. Can anybody remember a moon and star tattoo anywhere in that movie?! Thanks!

the girl, ofelia, is told she is the underworld princess, proof being the mark on her shoulder, so when she goes home she has a bath & checks her shoulder & sure enough, there is a cresent moon and a small star just behind her shoulder, and she smiles…

cool movie. was she actually a princess or was it all her imagination??:p
